Can I make jewellery with a stone I found ?

Does anyone have any idea about making a charm for a bracelet or making a pendant for a necklace with a river stone I found ? It is very small… perhaps 0.5 x 1 cm …

Does anyone know the best way to make it a charm ? Do I have to make a hole in it ?
Also, the stone is not round and smooth, it is rough, and the shape of a wolf's head… that is why I find it so interesting !
Do I have to use a jump ring ?

One way to turn a stone into a charm is to use wire wrapping techniques.
-you will need a pair of needle nose pliers (if the pliers have “teeth” wrap the ends of pliers with masking tape to prevent scratching the wire), and round nose pliers.
-You will also need some wire cutters.
- you will need some wire - most craft stores have different sizes and types of wire. Even some hardware store will have aluminum and copper wire. (Just be sure not to get anything with lead in it!)

YOu can take sterling silver wire and shape it around the stone and make a loop at the top of it on your necklace with. You can surelsurely a photo of this technique on line I have not done it but have seen it done

Wire-wrapping is your best bet for this. If you try to drill it without any experience, you may easily shatter the stone. Wire-wrapping, however, won't hurt the stone even if you make an absolute hash of it. Get some craft wire and play with it. See how best to wrap this stone. I like to make a twisted loop almost in the middle of my wire, put that at the top, and then wrap the ends around the stone a few different ways to secure it. See what works for you.

If you position your loop so your chain can go through it, and if you make it big enough for the ends of the chain to go through easily, then you won't need a jumpring.

All the above suggestions are good, but you can also drill a hole to put a link or bail through it to hang on a chain. However, you do need a special drill bit and must be careful not to crack the stone. Use eye protection if drilling. If it is rough, then you can also glue a cone shaped bail with an eyelet on the top to hang from a chain also.
